Ideal for larger plants…

This is similar to our indoor herb garden system but just on a larger scale – to cope with larger plants like tomatoes & peppers.

The indoor hydroponic system with lights contains 3 elements:

Taking the key elements in turn:

Element 1 – The hydroponic system

Hydroponic systems are great for growing tomatoes and peppers because:

• Plants like tomatoes & peppers will grow faster with better yields. (Compared to those grown in soil).
• It is significantly easier to control key items like nutrients & ph levels.
• And of course it’s easier to water them.

There are a variety of different type & size units on our site – but we especially like the one on the right because it takes up very little space and is very easy to operate.

And even only using 4 pots (for example for growing 4 tomato plants) will give you enough fresh tomatoes for a family.

Element 2 – An indoor grow light

Plants like tomatoes & peppers like lots of sunshine & warmth.

The advantage of using a specialised grow light (like the one on the right) is you will be able to provide exactly the right type of light.

Most houses (kitchen, etc) tend to be warm, which will be great for your plants.

But (especially in autumn and winter) you will need to provide them with extra light.

We like the one on the right because it’s quite compact and easy to fit in a small space.

In addition it can be programmed to set the number of hours it’s on – to help you get the best grow conditions.

For example some peppers will prefer warmer temperatures or longer light then some tomatoes, etc.

Element 3 – Support

The final element is to provide support for your plants as they grow.

This can sometimes be a challenge indoors – outside (when growing in soil) you can often simply use a bamboo rod in the ground.

But indoors – especially when using hydroponics or aquaponics – that is not as easy.

In addition it helps to use a support system that you can grow, as the plants get bigger and need some support.

The only one we’ve found that seems to fit the bill, is the one on the right.
